Four Influential Indian Women Making Waves on Forbes' 2023 Most Powerful Women List



Forbes recently revealed its annual list of the World's Most Powerful Women for 2023, spotlighting the remarkable achievements of women globally. Among the notable figures are four accomplished Indian women who have not only broken barriers but have also made their mark on the world stage, showcasing the diverse and influential voices emerging from India. Forbes determined the rankings based on four key metrics: money, media, impact, and spheres of influence.


1. Nirmala Sitharaman (Rank: 32)

- A key figure in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Sitharaman has been India's Finance Minister since 2019. She also served as the 28th Defense Minister from 2017 to 2019, earning her the distinction of being India's second female in both roles.


2. Roshni Nadar Malhotra (Rank: 60)

- At 42, Malhotra is a billionaire and philanthropist, serving as the chairperson of HCL Technologies. She made history as the first woman to lead a listed IT company in India. Forbes consistently recognizes her, placing her at 54th in 2019, 55th in 2020, and 60th in 2023.


3. Soma Mondal (Rank: 70)

- A trailblazer, 60-year-old Mondal is the Chairperson of the Steel Authority of India since January 2021. With over 35 years in the metal industry, she achieved milestones such as becoming the first woman Functional Director and Chairman at SAIL. Additionally, she was honored as 'CEO of the Year' at the ETPrime Women Leadership Awards in 2023.


4. Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw (Rank: 76)

- A prominent 70-year-old entrepreneur, Mazumdar-Shaw founded and led Biocon Limited and Biocon Biologics Limited. Recognized for her contributions, she received the Othmer Gold Medal in 2014 and was named the EY World Entrepreneur Of The Year in 2020. Forbes ranked her 76th in the 2023 list of powerful women.
